It's that season again where the leaves fall, the temperature drops, and the sweaters come out of the closets. But don't forget about the costumes, candy, and pumpkin carving. Deuel Elementary kids have it all on their minds as Halloween gets closer and closer.
Parents mark your calendars on October 28th for bonding time with your child or children. During that Thursday students will have a normal school day until 2:30 to start carving their pleasantly plump pumpkins in the little gym. Some of the classrooms will have a spooky, but entertaining, party after lunch and before the start of carving. The favorite part of the day for Tim Steffensen, elementary and middle school principal, is “walking around and seeing the kids carve their pumpkins with their parents.” While Mr. Steffensen walks around, make sure you look for his halloween tie, which he wears every year. A big thanks goes to Gary and Lynn Eide for supplying pumpkins for all the kids from kindergarten to fifth grade. “ I want a big pumpkin, but I don't know what I want to carve into it yet,” said Owen Quail, first grader. Owen's favorite part of carving the pumpkins is getting the seeds out. Quail says, “I like having my parents help me carve my design.”
Many varieties of sizes of the orange pumpkins will be scattered all over the gym, along with their “guts,” or seeds. Witches, ghosts, vampires, or even silly faces are a few of the choices to carve into one of the students own pumpkin. Don't forget to stroll around town when the lights go out to see what all the creative minds here at Deuel have come up with to make their Halloween special.
