On Monday, November 15th, a number of FFA and Ag students will load up and go to Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown for the day. They will be competing in the Career Development Event (CDE) with other schools. This competitive FFA event will prepare them in careers that they might choose later on that deal with agriculture.
Not only is the program about learning, but it is also about meeting new people who may share your common interests. FFA advisor and Ag teacher, Mr. Jason Karels said, “It is a way of linking what I teach in the classroom to the real world and students can practice what they have learned.” At this event students will prepare themselves for careers, gain valuable job interview skills, and better their public speaking ability. Mr. Karels said, “Students have gone in previous years and it is definitely good for them.” Meeting new people who share the students same interests is also on the agenda.
Career Development Event will further students knowledge about agricultural careers that they may want to be involved in. It will be a good way to tie in what the students are learning in class to what those jobs are like. Hopefully the students can have fun while they learn about what their future could hold.
