Seniors With Spirit!

Every senior athlete gets that feeling when they're finished with their last game of a season. It could be sadness, but for these senior ladies, it's happiness as they look back on memories that will last a lifetime.

Morgan Kjenstad has been cheering on the Cards since her freshman year. Morgan's first experience cheerleading was one for the books. “There were only two freshman on the squad, so we recruited another and we were freaking out before the game because we thought we looked silly!” said Kjenstad. After her days at Deuel are over, Kjenstad plans to attend Lake Area Tech for large animal and ag business. When that day comes Kjenstad will miss “being right there in the game, and getting the crowd pumped!”

Allie Farthing has been showing off her Cardinal spirit since she tried out in middle school. “I thought it would be really fun,” said Farthing. Farthing's favorite memory from her years of cheering was going to state wrestling with Stephanie Stee and Brooke Donahue. After Farthing is done walking the Deuel hallways, she plans to move on to Lake Area Tech. “I think I'm going for business, but things could change,” said Farthing. “I'm going to miss the girls on the squads the most because we always had fun!” said Farthing.

Jerra Olson always knew cheerleading was her “destiny” even when she was a little tot. “Two years ago the Sisseton band director introduced herself to us and Brittany Bruinsma put her arm up to shake her hand in an awkward way, but you just kind of had to be there,” said Olson when reminiscing about her favorite memory. South Dakota State University is Olson's college of choice after here Deuel days are done, although she is undecided on a major. “I will miss all the funny times we had with Sheila!” said Olson.

Cheerleading coach Sheila Monnier has nothing but good things to say about all of the lovely ladies. “Allie has such an outgoing personality and is willing to try anything,” Monnier said about Farthing. As for Kjenstad, Monnier said, “Morgan is kind of a quiet and 'behind the scenes' person, but is very kind and caring.” Jerra Olson will be missed too! “Jerra has been our go-to girl for new cheers and dances, and we will miss her creativity!” said Monnier. Monnier said she got to watch all of them “grow up” over the years, and will miss not having them around next season.
