Suprises an Egg without a Shell Can Bring!

Have you ever seen eggs without shells on them? Well if you have you probably took sophomore Biology class with Mrs. Schefelbein. In this class we are learning about osmosis and diffusion. In this lab we had to put an egg in vinegar, sugar water, syrup is what the packet called it, and just plain water. When we put the egg in the vinegar the egg got larger because it took in water from the vinegar. This was because there was less concentration of water in the egg for the water from the vinegar went in to the egg. Also when we put the egg in the vinegar the acid inside of it made the shell disintegrate so the egg was in a very fragile state throughout the whole lab. In fact two of the groups broke their eggs the second day into the lab. After the vinegar we put the egg in to the syrup. When we seen it the next day it was smaller in size because there was less concentration of water in the syrup so the water in the egg moved into the syrup. After that we put the egg in just plain water out of the faucet. Now that we put the egg in the water it got bigger because there was less concentration of water in the egg so the water in the egg so the wter that was in the beaker moved into the egg making it bigger. When we finished the lab we got to mess with the eggs to really see how strong the eggs are without shells. Turns out that even though eggs don't have shells that are pretty hard to break.
