Mother's Day Is Fast Approaching

Nearly 150 years ago, Mother's Day started. It was said that the Greeks brought Mother's Day to the United States. The Greeks celebrated a goddess named Rhea who was basically the mother of all Greeks. That is how the U.S. thought of starting Mother's Day, to celebrate the one who brought you into this world. This year Mother's Day will be on Sunday, May 9th, 2010.

"I think mothers deserve everything. They brought us to this earth and should be recognized for it. I mean, if it wasn't for them you or even I wouldn't be here today. They need a hug and a thank you for a job well done," said freshman Sam Wiekamp. Whether you show them your appreciation with a card, flowers, hug, etc. you are still putting a smile on their faces. "My sisters and I are planning on surprising her and taking her out for the day," said senior Ashley McCormick. As well as McCormick's plans there are others that have plans too. "I am planning to go out to eat for Mother's Day with my mom and dad," said freshman Samantha Wiekamp.

Why do you think Mother's Day is so important? Well ask sophomore Emily Smith, who said, "I think all mothers deserve to get treated like royalty, because when I'm a mom some day, I want to be spoiled on Mother's Day.”
