If you think about it, how big of a role do parents play in high school sports? We know all about the athletes and coaches, but parents can play a huge part of what's going on on the mat, court, or beam. Whether it was starting you in Summer Rec when you were a little tike or watching endless hours of practice or competition, parents need a little recognition for all that they do.
That's where parent's night comes in to play. For one night parents can be recognized by the community and their children for all their love and support. Whether it's a great big hug, or a balloon and flowers, or even just a pop and candy, they sure appreciate it. Ellen Schmahl, mom of senior wrestler Spencer Schmahl, said, “being recognized with all of the other parents who show support for their student athletes,” is the most fun part of the night.
For the athletes, the feeling is mutual. Junior basketball player, Brock Hanten, said, “We probably don't tell our parents how much they mean to us often enough. I would just like to say that I'm glad that they pushed me to get better, and that I love them!”
