The Deuel Cardinals Wrestling team has had a very successful year. The Cardinals had six wrestlers that wrestled at the state tournament. The State “B” Wrestling Tournament took place at the Civic Center in Rapid City, February 24 and 25. The team left Thursday for Rapid City and they came home on Sunday. The wrestlers that wrestled were Dwayne Redlin, Adam Krause, Frank Hartway, Tyler Brown, Austin Anderson, and Jordan Lovre. Redlin brought home the fifth place medal in the 152 pound weight class. Hartway brought home the eighth place medal in the 145 pound weight class. The Cardinals overall had a very good year. The team did well at the state meet. The team scored a total of twenty-four points for twenty-seventh place. Canton took home the championship. Senior Adam Krause wrestled at the state meet in the 120 pound weight class he said, “This year at state it was very difficult and stout. There was a great competition throughout all the weights and I'm grateful I got to be a part of it all.” Krause also stated that the team was great this year. For the most part, they got along well and had a great time. “Last year I had to win a match to guarantee myself a place. After I won, it seemed like everything I did, all the work I went through and all the troubles I had was worth it,” stated Krause as his greatest wrestling moment. The Cardinals will be losing three seniors this year. They are going to be many returning wrestlers for the next season.
Be ready to watch for the wrestlers next year. They will be working hard during the offseason to prepare for next season. The Cardinals will be bringing back many strong wrestlers to the roster again. The team will come back strong next season.
