Overwhelmed with frustration?

Groups equally assigned in classes

Who likes to be overwhelmed and drowned in homework, because of one project? I am one who strongly feels that it is not fair in the least bit to be put in groups where you do all the work yourself. All teachers are different and they all assign groups differently. To me, I think that we should be able to pick our groups, but if that does not happen, the teacher or instructor should be fair and assign the groups equally.

Everyone has a different perspective on what is equal. In my opinion I think that equal for this topic means, the students who do their work and have a strong or determined work ethic should be grouped together and not have to be frustrated with the others who mess around, make excuses, or even just because they are flat out lazy. The one's who chose to fall behind or don't so much as care about their work, let alone the grades they get should be put together and not be put in a group with one's who care. Not only do these types of people create stress for the teacher, but also their partners in their groups. When students don't do their work in the group, teachers generally hear about it, if not they usually are able to tell who made the effort and did the work and it takes away the meaning of a “group” project.

Grades are the biggest worry for some. When the group does bad everyone in that groups grade is affected. Groups could maybe be chosen randomly, but when you make the regulations for these projects, the teacher should make adjustments, such as different grading for each member or even point out the ones who did not help the group out and make them do extra or even deduct their grade. I, myself am brutally honest when we self evaluate our group and I don't hold back. If someone makes no effort and makes the whole group suffer I believe that they should not be given much credit for the project, maybe none at all. Having groups equally picked would help everyone out.

  1. I agree with you, I think that the groups should be equal and done by the grades, such as if two people have A's then they should be grouped together.

  2. It is very frustrating when you get a partner in a group that doesn't put in enough effort, I agree with you. I hope some teachers think about this a little bit more when they pick our groups.
