NHS Newbies

National Honor Society, or NHS, recognizes students for their character, scholarship, leadership and service. What does that entail? These students are required to have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA, they need to display positive character traits and leadership, and also help out in the community. Along with this, you need to be a sophomore and up to even be considered into NHS.

On Monday, April 12th, the new NHS members were inducted into the society. These members include Tom Cook, Dalton DeBoer, Shannon DeBoer, Adam Krause, Nathan Lundberg, Gabbie Nelson, Emily Smith, Paige TeGantvoort, Abigail Trieb, Brandi Hanten, and Ashley Hansen. The ceremony began with an invocation, followed by a brief message by Mr. Steve Benson. The selection process was be explained, and was followed by recognizing the scholarship applicants. After the applicants had been recognized, Mrs. Barb Schiefelbein read off the 2009-2010 Chapter Activities, and the installation of officers began. The program was finished with the induction of the new members.

Sophomore Paige Tegantvoort, one of the new NHS members, was really excited for the ceremony, and said, “I feel very accomplished in my work because I achieved a great goal.” Sophomore Abigail Trieb, another new NHS member is very happy that she got into NHS, because she worked really hard to reach this goal, and she plans to continue to work hard to be able to remain in it.
