Dance for a Cause
On December 18, 2009, Deuel High School students attended a dance held at the school. The admission was three dollars per person. Student Council sponsored the dance, they provide the DJ and chaperones. "I'm glad we had a good turn out for the dance, because it goes toward a good cause." Student Council President, Lauren Brandt said. The DJ was Deuel High School Senior, Matthew Goens. The dance was held in the Deuel Gymnasium, and went from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. This dance was for a beneficial cause. All proceeds from this dance went toward the Marty Kranz Scholarship fund. The school is involved in other fundraising activities too. Last year, the school held a Marty Kranz night at a basketball double header. It included a silent auction, an SDSU ice cream feed, and a supper feed. Also last year, there was a Marty Kranz night at a football game in which free donations were given. A donation of $2,000 was given toward the fund from Mike Thyen. This was the money Thyen made from training and selling the puppies from Kranz's dog. There has been discussion of doing another Marty Kranz night at a game this winter. So far, the Marty Kranz Scholarship Committee has raised $7,500 for the fund, and the goal is $10,000. Once the fund reaches $10,000, the Marty Kranz Scholarship Committee will invest it into a endowment where the principal is invested permanently and they will receive interest every year, which will be payed out for scholarships. The Committee will continue to raise money after the $10,000 is reached to increase fund, and to give out bigger scholarships each year!
