Mrs. Walder

Greetings! As the instructor for Journalism, I will also be contributing to our online editition. Along with Journalism, I also teach Senior British Literature/ Composition, Sophomore Composition/ Speech, 8th Grade Reading, and AP Literature/ Composition at Deuel High School. Our school is a 1:1 laptop school which means all students grades 9-12 have laptops.

My husband Tom and I live in Hayti with our little girl who was born on October 1, 2008. Leah is almost four months old now and keeping us very busy. We are both graduates of SDSU in Brookings, SD.

One interesting fact about me is that I actually began my teaching career through a volunteer opportunity in Hong Kong. I worked as an EFL teacher with students ages 5-12. The experience was amazing and I loved to see the lights of the big city, but it was also good to find myself back in South Dakota. Through my travels I have seen most of the country and a few small parts of the world, but I choose to live in South Dakota and love all that comes with it. I find myself bundling up to ride snowmobile with friends and family in the cold months, and in the summer months, I am able to enjoy the warm breeze and sunshine on the golf course.
