The Race Begins

With the start of the new year comes the push to get all the sporting events in that you can. In gymnastics there will be a meet every week, a lot of times two a week. That can get to be a lot, but it is fun being with all the girls at the meets.

On Saturday, January 8th, the Deuel gymnasts traveled to Sisseton for the first meet of the new year. The meet started at 2:00, originally supposed to have started at 11:00, but because of the weather it got pushed back. The gymnasts day started at 9:30 though when they left the gym, and had an hour and half bus ride up there. After they got there every thing that they use was carried into the gym.

After a while of waiting the girls got to start stretching for the warm-ups. Warm-ups began and those seemed to go pretty good. The teams marched in and the nation anthem was played the gymnasts said their little chant. They were then headed to their first event, which seemed to set the tone for the whole meet.

There were a few mistakes made on the event, but nothing you can't come back from in the end. Vault was next and that went well, now, though, we come to beam. Let's just say that didn't go so well at all. But they got through it made it to floor and finished the meet with a team score of about 139. They gymnasts did very well, and I want to say good luck on the rest of the season.
