Need For Speed

I'm thinking an Autobahn in America! In my opinion, there should be some increases made to the speed at which we travel county roads, state highways, and the interstates. I feel there should be a change because in today's day and age we live in a fast pace society and don't have time to drive like it's Sunday!

Many people's lives are very busy and their daily plans are scheduled tight they can't afford to take even a half hour driving to places. The county roads in South Dakota is 55 mph, which I think should be boosted up to 65. Honestly, I rarely ever drive that slow. Trying to catch as much sleep as possible and having to drive 20 miles to school everyday does not give me very much time to drive! Highways in South Dakota are 65 mph, I feel this could be 75 mph. The interstate in South Dakota is 75 mph, which some people may think is too fast or fast enough, but I like to drive fast. I feel like the two lanes make interstates very safe, and can handle vehicles traveling over 75. I find the speed limits in town acceptable because there is so much more traffic to deal with, stoplights, and people. Keeping city speed limits around 30 mph is common sense safety because raising the speed limits in town is ridiculous and would increase accidents and fatalities.

Now, some people might be thinking that speeding is dangerous and causes more accidents. I believe that the speed at which an accident happens is insignificant because people are killed in accidents where the vehicles were barely moving at 30 mph. I think that faster traffic makes for a smoother flow. When you meet a Sunday driver leisurely chugging down the interstate at 65, you have to slam on your brakes, which can lead to accidents. I feel like drivers, like me, will set their own speed at which they feel comfortable with and disregard the speed limits all together. I do not have enough time in my day to be crawling down the highway...sorry. I may regret it if I get a speeding ticket though.

Increasing the speed limits of county roads and state highways and turning interstates into the Autobahn is an excellent idea, if I do say so myself, because think of all the sweet time we will save. As long as people are alert and focused while driving, speed limits shouldn't matter!

  1. On the Autobahn there are strict laws governing driving. Do you think that the government should be able to increase fines and also increase the cost of a driver's license if there was an American Autobahn?

  2. I agree with you on how the speed limits in town are good. I also feel the same way you do about how accidents can happen at any speed that the vehicle is driving.

  3. They have advisory speed limits but I like that there is no general speed limit. But as for increasing fines and the cost of a driver's license, I think, wouldn't be necessary because I feel like the interstate is already treated like an autobahn.

  4. Well in Germany you have to be eighteen to get your license and the autobahn is one of the reasons. There would be so many wrecks if we had that here.
