This year there are two Deuel senior wrestlers on the 08-09 Deuel Wrestling team.
Mark Sherman is one of the two. His favorite memory was the team beating Redfield, who is a perennial powerhouse in the NEC, his sophomore year. He said his funniest moments are all of the conversations on the bus rides. He has three specific goals this year. The goals for him this year are win state, set the school record for wins in a season, and set the school record for pins in a season. He says the team this year is special because, “We get along better than any team I have ever been on.” His role model in wrestling is Don Gabel. “No one worked harder than him on the mat, or as a coach,” Sherman said about coach Gabel. He plans to go to SDSU, NSU, or USF to major in business and may or may not wrestle.
Lance Hinsvark is another senior wrestler this year. His goal this year is simple: wrestle good at state. His favorite part about wrestling is, “It’s only you against the other guy, and your weight too.” He thinks the team this year is special because, “ELE.” (Everyone Loves Everyone.) That is the phrase this year in the wrestling room and it keeps everyone close and friends. His role model in wrestling is Greg Lanners. He is undecided of his future after high school.
