This week in P.E. the students are learning and playing a game known as Pickleball. "It's an awesome game," Spencer said. This game is played a lot like tennis and ping-pong combined. "It's really a giant game of ping-pong, right?" Ryan E. asked. He is correct there.
You have net, a wooden or plastic paddle, and a wiffleball (plastic ball with holes in it). The goal is to get the ball across the net without your opponent returning it back to you. The games go to best of seven. In singles the P.E. class its rapid scoring to keep the games moving and get more games in. Rapid scoring, "It's when you score every time on a lost posession," Mr. Gudmunson said. In doubles it's official scoring. "Official scoring is when you can only score when you serve," Mr. Gudmunson said.
There is a doubles contest going on right now and the only team that did not lose on Tuesday was the team of Mr. Gudmunson and Chris D. Today the teams will be switched up again as all of the students will be here this time.

What's Going on in Ag I?
The Ag I students started welding at the beginning of fourth quarter. So far the students have learned safety precautions so that way they'll be prepared to take the safety test. Students are learning about how to run the Meg Welder, Arc Welder, and Oxiacetelyne Welder properly. Mr. Karels showed them how to properly run each welder. The students worked on units in a Welding chapter book and they use that to help them study. Then when the safety test comes they will be ready. The safety test is on Wednesday the 29th and Thursday the 30th. After they get done taking the test and Mr. Karels agrees that they are ready to start welding then its safe to do so.
Spring Play

Spring has arrived, so that means the spring play will be coming up. This year’s play is called “A Nose for the News”. Mrs. Walder is the director of the play, along with student director, senior Brittany Bruinsma. Walder said, “I chose this play because it has light humor and allows a lot of students to be involved.” There will be two performances of the play held, everyone is welcome to come. It will be on April 23rd, one at 4:00 p.m., and another at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for students. Activity tickets are accepted.
Mrs. Walder said, “I think that the play has a positive role for the entire student body and the community. Even the students who do not participate in the production are able to join in on the fun!” Being in the play benefits the students in different ways, Mrs. Walder said, “The students learn how to express themselves in many ways and gain experience [to speak] in front of people.”
A Nose for the News is about the news station manager of WDHS, Cyrano, who is played by, sophomore Kyle Pederson, who has a very big nose and is trying to be the new co-anchor of the show. Roxanne, who is played by, sophomore Jerra Olsen, is the news anchor looking for a co-anchor. Also in the running for the new co-anchor position is “the new guy” from the mail room and is not the brightest guy, Chris, who is played by, senior Mark Sherman.
Dolores, sophomore Alyssa Becht, is Roxanne’s assistant, and is always by Roxanne’s side. Senior Lyndsey Mack, who plays Martha, is the stage manager of the news station. Claire, freshman Krista Zellner, is an announcer for the news. Freshman Tom Cook plays Mr. Gauche who is the evil owner of the news station. Penelope is a child to Mr. Gauche, who is played by sophomore Hailey Schake. Flip Flagstone, is a weatherman, played by sophomore Matt Hotzler. Senior Taylor Toben plays Spice Spencer, who is a sportscaster.
Droopy the Clown, is played by freshman McKayla Reppe, who is has a depressing clown show. Bret, played by freshman Fred Noem is a newswriter. Sophomore Briana DeBoer, plays Ramona, who has her own cooking show, and is a poet wannabe. Lisa, who is played by sophomore Hillary Lopez, is the producer of Ramona’s Cooking Show. Freshman Shannon DeBoer, plays Victoria Valvert, who is a news anchor for the rival station WEHS. Adam Desenfants and Ben White are helping with tech. Breanna Stoltenburg, Caitlyn Brandt, Brandi Hanten, Stephanie Stee, Mara Nieman, Tasha Gniffke, and Brittany Bruinsma is helping with props and make-up along with the cast of the play.
“A Nose for the News” is based on the story of Cyrano de Bergerac. He is a swordsman and poet, and has a very big nose. Cyrano is known in Paris for his bravery and charm. The Cyrano in “A Nose for the News” bases his life around Cyrano de Bergerac, since he also has a big nose. Cyrano is trying to be the new co-anchor of the news anchor Roxanne, but she is looking for someone more attractive. “The new guy”, Chris, is who she is looking for. While this is going on, Mr. Gauche, the evil owner, is trying to make the ratings go down.
Practices are held Monday through Thursday morning at 7-8 a.m. and sometimes Fridays. They’re held in the morning so that way people who are involved in activities after school still have the opportunity to be involved. Practices are held in the big gym on the stage and in Mrs. Walder’s room. Practice helps to learn lines, blocking, timing, and to put it all together.

Track Senior Spotlight
There are five senior tracksters this year. Taylor Gibson, Logan DeBoer, Ross Effling, Lyndsey Mack, and Sam Becht.
Talyor Gibson is the speed man of the group and has been out for track all six years. He runs the 100m dash, 200m dash, 400m dash, and the 800m run most of time in the 4X800m relay. His favorite events are the 200m dash and the 400m dash. His best place he has ever gotten was 1st place and he has done that a countless number of times. He plans to go to Nothern State University to play football and major in Business or pre physical therapy.
Logan DeBoer has also been out for track all six years and is the muscle man of the group. He throws shot put and discus. He cannot pick a favorite between the two so he just simply said, "My favorite events I do are shot and discus." Logan, like Gibson, has gotten 1st place many times. His plans for the future are very, well, unique. "I am going to shoot myself to the moon and have an awesome zero gravity dance party, or I might go to college at SDSU and get a degree in civil engineering, I havent decided yet," Logan said.
Ross Effling is the distance man of the five and has been in track for five years. He runs the 4x800m relay, the 1600m run (mile), and the 3200m run (2 mile). His favorite event is the 4x800m relay. "I like it because the pressure is on four guys as a team, not just myself to do it all," Ross said. He has gotten 2nd place twice this year individually and has recieved 1st place with his 4x800m relay team. He plans to go to SDSU and major in Computer Science after high school.
Lyndsey Mack is the utility trackster of sorts. This is because she does both running and throwing events. Lyndsey has been out for track for five years. She runs the 4x200m relay, the 4x400m relay, sometimes the 200m dash, and she throws shot put. "I like doing shot put because it doesn't involve me doing any running," Lyndsey said. She has placed first before in her career. She plans to go to SDSU and major in nursing after her time is done here at Deuel High School.
Sam Becht is the thrower girl of the group and she has been out for track for five years. For her events, she throws shot put and discus. Her favorite event is the discus throw. The best place she has ever gotten was 2nd place. After high school she plans to go to Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) for pre-med in the medical research field.

Swine Flu
These past two weeks people have heard about the new infection that may soon be all over the US: Swine Flu. Swine flu is a type A influenza type bacteria. There are vaccinations for the swine flu, just like how there is for influenza. The swine flu is said to have been caused by orthomyxovirus which is said to have been the same virus that caused the 1918 influenza pandemic. Some say that is had been spread from pigs. You may think that if it was transmitted from pigs, what about meat? Meat is still safe to eat, you just need to take extra precaution around the food supplier, the pig that is.
Just in the US, there have been 93 confirmed cases of the swine flu. These are the only states so far that have the virus and how many cases they have, Arizona 1, California 14, Indiana 1, Kansas 2, Massachusetts 2, Michigan 2, Nevada 1, New York City 51, Ohio 1, South Dakota 2, Texas 16, Texas had also lost one person to this virus.
You need to wash your hands everyday and keep your health good, get checked if you don’t feel good, and try to stay clean. If you feel sick you need to stay home and especially if you catch this virus you really need to stay home to reduce the chance of passing it on. You would need to cover your mouth and nose, avoid touching your eyes and mouth, and just practice other good health tricks. You can’t really hide from the swine flu, but if you want to make sure you are not going to get it, you can buy a face mask. Although this does not guarantee anything, you do have a high chance of catching this flu, because it is passed through the air. So make sure if you don’t feel good or even if you want to make sure, get checked, and be clean.

There were 11 new members that were inducted just this past Monday night, which include juniors Jenna Van Dyke and Matt Goens and sophomores Matt Hotzler, Brock Hanten, Ryan Effling, Drew Trautman, Caitlyn Brandt, Jerra Olsen, Stephanie Stee, and Craig Schake. The other NHS members include seniors Ross Effling, Logan DeBoer, Travis Harford, Ben White, Travis Van Hofwegen, Taylor Hotzler, Mindy Hanten, Lindsay Mack Jenna Kloos, and Sam Becht, juniors Kayla Ronne, Ashley McCormick, Kjirsten Almos, Maria Konold, Tara Krause, Lauren Brandt, and Eric Lundberg. The officers are Kjirstin Almos, President, Adam Desenfants, Vice President, Ashley McCormick, Treasurer, and Tara Krause, secretary. To be a member of NHS you must have at least a 3.500 grade point average and you are asked to submit a form about yourself. “There is a scholarship available for NHS, and it is also very nice to be able to put on your resume that you were a member of the National Honor Society,” said Barb Schiefelbein. The NHS members have done many things this year such as putting a float in the homecoming parade, helped the elementary students carve pumpkins, sponsored an individual with a sharing tree, bowled with the elderly at the nursing home and helped clean up the court yard. NHS has been a program at Deuel since 1963.
Take Your Child to Work Day
Take Your Child to Work Day is held on Friday. Take Your Child to Work Day involves 7th graders. This program is a National Organization and this is Deuel School’s 14th year with the program. The purpose of Take Your Child to Work Day is to provide the 7th grade students with valuable career information. When growing up, you learn about your parent’s job and getting to go with a parent to work provides a close look at what their job entails. It also helps develop an appreciation and understanding of the parent, by the student to what is necessary in order to achieve at that particular job.
When Lexi Seeley was asked how many parents actually take their child to work, she said, “95% of the students will go with a parent. Some jobs because of liability, client or patient confidentiality a student may not be able to go with that parent. If that is a case we have those students be "adopted" by someone else and have an alternative place for them to visit.”
The kids should get out of this program the knowledge about their parent’s jobs, exploration into the world or work, and an experience that will create and interest and open the students mind to what they might be interested in.

Students who went to Estelline's Prom
On Saturday April 25, 2009, a few of the seniors went to Estelline High School prom. The seniors that went include Brittany Bruinsma, Logan DeBoer, Garrett Smith, Jackie Feten, Nathan Drake, Lance Hinvark, Mark Sherman, Taylor Toben, and Travis Hartford. They left at 1 in the morning on Saturday and returned home at 2:30 Sunday morning. They ate at the nursing home because they had a banquet. Then for post prom they went to World's of Fun in Kansas City.
Mark Sherman said, “It was way more fun than our prom. The dance was more fun, because I didn't really know anyone so I felt that I could really be myself and not have to worry about it. The trip was awesome, the bus ride gave us lots of time to talk and just have fun, and the rides at World's of Fun are top of the line!”
Logan DeBoer said, “It was a lot of fun I really enjoyed the trip and the theme park.” Brittany Bruinsma said it was fun because I got to meet a lot of different people and make some new friends.

Deuel Prom and Post-prom
This past Saturday was the Deuel High School Junior/ Senior Prom. This event is always very hyped up and excited for almost all of the high school students here at Deuel. I for one was very excited for prom, yes mostly because Linda, my girlfriend that most of you know, was coming and i could spend all night with her in a fun and mostly romantic night. I was not the only one with the romantic part in mind. There was much Public Displays of Affection (P.D.A) all night long. The dance was over-all fun as well. "I think i lost 10 pounds after the dance," Jordan Stahn said. The main event for the post-prom was a hypnotist who was very enjoyable. "He was absolutely hilarious, I wish our prom had him," Linda Stroschein said. There were a lot of very valuble prizes given out such as two Wii's, two T.V.'s, six mini-fridges, and much more large prizes. I won a pizza maker with a $50 gift certificate to Scheel's, 15 golf balls, and a $100 gift certificate to Austad's Golf. Everyone was talking about it many weeks before in preparation and now they still cannot stop talking about it because it was just that fun.
Deuel Track at home Tuesday
On Tuesday, the Deuel track team had their final home meet of the season. It was the Kiwanis relays meet. The day was nice and sunny just the 15 to 20 mph wind took away the beauty a little bit. "Gosh it's a nice day, but I'm still cold," tailgating enthusiest and cold hater Mark Sherman said. "That wind really stunk big time," Ross Effling said.
The track meet went really well over-all. Taylor Gibson and Jerra Oleson have already qualified for state. Logan DeBoer was just shy of qualifying for state in the shot-put throw. This may make you wonder, "How do you qualify for state?" This is very interesting on how you can qualify for state in track. There are set amounts of feet or a set amount of time you have to beat or tie and you are automatically in the state meet. These are called automatic qualifiers. A person can also qualify at the Region meet. The top two placers in every event qualify for state as well in each event at the Region meet.

Deuel golf goes to Lake Poinsett
On Monday the Deuel golfers went to Lake Poinsett for the LCC golf meet located near Hamlin. It was a cold, windy and forgetable day for most it seemed. "It was crappy," Brock Hanten said. For others, there were positives. "Even for it being as bad as it was out we still did pretty good," Nathan Drake said. I do not have the results but they should be up on the school website pretty soon.
Today, Tuesday, there were some students, me included, that were interested on how the placing for state goes in golf. We asked Mr. Lundberg and Nathan Drake these questions since Mr. Lundberg is the coach and Nathan is the top senior golfer on the team. They said that the top 20 golfers in each region go to state and the top two teams make it as well.
The whole boys team made it to state last year but not as a team at regions. They did count as a full team at state anyway though. "Our main competition is Castlewood and Duebrook for the region boys teams," Coach Lundberg said.

Major League Baseball Milestones
Being the more than avid fan of Major Legue Baseball (MLB) that I am, I cannot just watch my team, the Minnesota Twins, and be satisfied. I actually can't be satisfied, on a night like tonite anyway because the Twins lost to the Toronto Blue Jays tonight 12-2, but I need more than just the game. So, tonight I went on the MLB website and looked up milestones. A milestone is a record or accoplishing a goal. In baseball there are many milestones that could be achieved, but there are so few who actually achieve them. The website has all of the possible milestones that could be achieved during the season.
I looked at the hitting milestones and the first name that showed up was Ken Griffey Jr. His name is not only the first name on there but it is all over the place. Griffey Jr. was and still is one of the most feared hitters in the game. He is now the 43rd all-time games played holder and could possibly move to top 30 by the end of the year.
Some other big milestones include, Michael Young is four at-bats away from 5,000 career at-bats. He is also one hit away from 1,500 career hits. Torii Hunter is one double away from 300 career doubles and he could possibly do it this weekend against his former team, the Minnesota Twins.
The biggest milestone from my perspective, being the much more than avid Twins fan that I am, includes Joe Nathan. He is the closing pitcher for the Minnesota Twins. He is one save away from passing Bobby Thigpen for 38th all-time most saves. He is three saves away from passing Jeff Shaw for 37th all-time.

Spring events vs. the weather and Estelline track results
This time of the year, the weather never really wants to cooperate with the spring events, track and golf. Major League Baseball Begins
On April 5th, Opening Day for the MLB was officially started when the Atlanta Braves defeated the World-Series Champion Philadelphia Philles 4-1.
The Opening Day started on April 6th for every other team, except the Royals @ White Sox and the Rays @ Red Sox games, those were postponed because of snow. There are some surprises in the standings early in the year here. Although, most people say not to even pay attention to the standings until after the All-Star Break, which is half-way through the season, but I always seem to get curious about who's winning and who's slacking off early.
The American League (AL) East has the Toronto Blue Jays in first place, the Baltimore Orioles in second place, the New York Yankees third, the Tampa Bay Rays fourth, and the Boston Red Sox fifth.
The AL Central is just as mixed up as expected. The Chicago White Sox are first, the Detroit Tigers are second, the Kansas City Royals are third, my Minnesota Twins are still only a game back but in fourth for now, and the Cleveland Indians are fifth.
The AL West is the biggest surprise for me because it has the Seattle Mariners in first place, the Los Angeles Angles of Anaheim in second, the Texas Rangers third, and the Oakland A's fourth.
The National League (NL) East is still rather close except for one team. The Atlanta Braves are in first place, the Florida Marlins are in second place, the Philadelphia Phillies are in third, the New York Mets are fourth, and the Washington Nationals are fifth and the only team in the league with out a win.
The NL Central has the Chicago Cubs in first, the St. Louis Cardinals second, the Pittsburgh Pirates third, the Cincinnati Reds in fourth, the Milwaukee Brewers fifth, and the Houston Astros in sixth place.
The NL West has the San Diego Padres in first place, the Los Angeles Dodgers second, the Colorado Rockies in third, the Arizona Diamondbacks in fourth, and the San Fransisco Giants in fifth place.

Small Group Contest.
This past Saturday the high school choir went to Watertown for a small group contest. They needed to sing a song they got to chose. They were judged on how their performance was and how their energy was toward the song. They were also judged on their vocal ability for the song; also they needed to know the dynamics and when to get loud and when to get soft. Everyone did a fantastic job, they will remember this for their entire life. They all had a wonderful performance, but since they all had different times they had a choice of riding with Mrs. Krause (Band) and Mrs. Hanson (choir) or they could have rode with their parents. Some people had songs in the morning or in the afternoon, or in some cases it was where they had both. Although there were a lot of people, everyone sang great.
Star Wars

The Star Wars is an American space flim, written and directed by George Lucas. Then it continues with Star Wars like 4, 5 and 6 of the movies. He is a good producer of Star Wars books and movies. George Lucas began work on Star Wars in May 1973. Luke and Princess Leia had to save their father from the Sith Lord. I like the movies of all the Star Wars like 4, 5 and 6 movies. It is the funny movies and the action movies. Because I like Star Wars all the time of movies and all books too.
Of Mice and Men
“Of Mice and Men” is a book that I am reading in American Literature class. This book is an about two guys Lennie and George that have to move from their hometown to a ranch where they work in the field all day. Their living conditions on the ranch aren’t very good. They share a bunk house with Slim, Candy, and Carlson. Their bunk is pretty full for just being on a ranch. Lennie isn’t very smart, he acts like a little kid, but he is really big guy. George is smarter than Lennie and is smaller than him. Lennie and George have a dream where they will save up enough money to buy a farm house. They also wish to raise rabbits on their farm, and Lennie wants to be responsible to take care of them and feed them. Lennie likes to pet soft thing like objects and animals. But their dreams get ruined when Lennie kills Curley’s wife. Which Curley is the boss’s son. Lennie was in the barn and she made him mad and he started shaking her and he broke her neck. After George walked into the barn and sees Curley’s wife dead he goes and looks for Lennie at the place where he tells him to go if he ever got in trouble. So when George finds Lennie at the place that he told him to go he talks to him and tells him to look at the river bank where George pulls out a gun shots Lennie in the back of the head. After that Curley, slim and Carlson get their and told him what happened. Once slim got done talking to Lennie the story ended and his dream was crushed. My opinion of this book is that it’s a good book. John Steinbeck is a very good author and thats one of the reasons why i liked this book. It has lots of ups and down that George has to go through just for a friend. George also lost a lot of opportunities that he could have had in having a better life with someone else or with finding a better job. That is what George went through for a friend. So that is my opinion.

Shrine Circus
The Shrine Circus has always been a fun experience. When I was a kid, I loved going to the circus and I still do. This week on Saturday the circus is coming to the Watertown Civic's Center. It costs twelve dollars for an adult to get in at the door and four dollars for children. They do three shows at eleven in the morning, three thirty in the afternoon and eight in the evening. There will be all kinds of people and animals doing acts for the audience. People like acrobats and jugglers and animals like monkeys, tigers, and elephants will be there. Each act is about fifteen to thirty minutes long. The entire show lasts about two hours.
I asked some people about what they enjoy about the circus. Tina Gniffke said, “The lion act is my favorite part.” She thinks that the circus could be quite dangerous for the people that have to perform the show. Tasha Gniffke said, “My favorite part about the circus is seeing all the animals.” She thinks the reason why the circus is so amazing to children is because when you go to the circus you get to see things that you don't normally see in everyday life.

Easter
Did you know that Americans eat more candy at Easter than at any other holiday? Did you know that Marshmallow Peeps are the most popular Easter treat? Easter is celebrated on April 12th. It is always celebrated on the first Sunday following the full moon of the vernal equinox. This holiday marks the rebirth of Jesus for Christians it is also the time for children to enjoy chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks and jellybean-filled Easter eggs.
To celebrate Easter, Morgan Kjenstad is going to her grandmas to celebrate Easter and her grandma’s birthday. Morgan’s favorite part of Easter is going on Easter eggs hunts, but she doesn’t believe in the Easter bunny. Briana DeBoer loves Easter “I can see my family, and it means it's starting to get close to the summer since its spring!” On Easter her family usually goes to her grandparents’ house to paint eggs and go on Easter egg hunts. A lot of people have childhood memories about Easter. High School Social Studies teacher Heather Schwenn’s childhood memory of Easter is waking up to find footprint all over the kitchen that the Easter bunny had left, because he walked through the mud on the way to the house.

NCAA Championship Game
Since March 19th March Madness has filled the air and been a non-stop subject for almost everyone who does not live under a rock. Monday night ended the, "March Madness," for another year. North Carolina, the favorite at the beginning of the year to win the tournament took on the big underdog, Michigan State.
The two teams had already played earlier in the year with North Carolina beating down Michigan State 95-60. The biggest reason 4 that was Michigan State's main player, Goron Suton, was out due to a knee injury. This game was expected to go easily to North Carolina and the critics were right.
Directly from the start North Carolina took care of bussiness going up 33-11 with 10 minutes left in the 1st half. North Carolina ended up winning 89-72 to win their second National Championship in six years. The leading scorer for North Carolina was Ty Lawson with 21 points.

The Longest Yard
The longest yard is about a football player named Paul Crew that gets sent to prison for stealing his girlfriends car. His girlfriend Lena was haveing a little party and then later he stole her car asnd started joyriding around San Diego and after getting the car completely destroyed and disabling several police cruisers in the process, he gets arrested. He is found guilty of grand theft auto and is sentenced to three years in Allenville Penitentiary in Texas. Where he is forced to start a football team against the guards. It was arranged for him to go to that prison by prison warden Hazen. When the warden told paul that he wanted him to play football he told him no, and after getting roughed up by the guards he decideded to play. Paul is played by Adam Sandler, and Nelly is in it. I really liked this movie because it was funny and it was very intense. It involved quit a bit of action that happend between the guards and the prisoners.
The Guardian
The US Coast Guard version of "Top Gun" with a little "An Officer and A Gentleman" thrown in: an aging USCG rescue swimmer's team is killed in a horrific rescue mission. Immediately prior to this terrible event, his wife also announced that she cannot take anymore. His first love is always the rescue mission. This leaves him an obviously emotional wreck. His commander gives him a choice - quit or take a position as an instructor at the USCG training facility in Louisiana. Reluctantly he takes the position. Moving into the school, he immediately increases the 18 week curriculum that routinely fails half of the people that attend. Here he meets a young man with unlimited potential, but with some secret that seems to hold him back as a team player. Delving into his past, links are found that make him a psychic twin to the older man. Thrown into the midst of the story is a romance with a local girl. Rescue missions punctuate the beginning and end of the story with the training sessions the center of the film.
I like this movie because you can learn so much about what the people of the Coast guards go through and what type of things they encounter each and everyday. You get to know about their routine and what they can and cant do. I like this movie and I really do advise people to go see this movie.

Madagascar 2
Madagascar 2 starts out when Alex the Lion was a baby in Africa, when he is caught by poachers. His dad (Zuba) tries to save him, but the crate falls off the truck into the river without Zuba knowing. The crate ends up in the ocean and floats to New York. The baby lion is fished out of the ocean and put into the New York City Zoo. In the first movie Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe and Gloria the Hippo escape form the zoo, and then when they are being shipped to Africa the boats crashes on Madagascar. The same four animals are now trying to get back to New York City when the plane (that the penguins built) goes down and lands in Africa. Alex the Lion meets his mom and dad, and has a hard time fitting in. Marty meets other zebras (they sound exactly like him), Gloria meets other hippos, and Melman meets the giraffes and asks about medications. Melman becomes the new witch doctor. In the end Alex has to find the cause of the water hole drying up.
The voices of the main characters are Ben Stiller as Alex the Lion, Chris Rock as Marty the Zebra, David Schwimmer as Melman the Giraffe, and Jada Pinkett Smith as Gloria the Hippo. This movie was released in November 2008 it was made between the years 2007 and 2008. Madagascar 2 sold $63 million in the box office.
I think this movie was really good. I really liked how the animals worked together. I think this movie would teach younger viewers that it is good to have friend, your friends are always there for you, and that you are unique; even if you look exactly alike you have something different about you.

Weather
As everyone should know we had a snow storm on Tuesday. We were supposed to get anywhere from 4-7 inches, in the Sioux Falls areas. Other areas got 6-12 inches of snow. From what we know, before Tuesday’s storm, we were going to school until the 28th of May. But now that we have added another snow day we don’t know how long this school year will extend.
We had asked some people that come to the Deuel School District some questions about what they think of the weather. Some questions we asked were: What kind of weather they like, What do they think about more school, and How the weather effects them. From what we know mostly everyone wants summer to come, and they all don’t like to drive or have to do chores in this kind of weather. Most just want the school year to end. But people are being effected by the fact that we have so much time to make up for our missing days of school.

Traveling Art Show
This year the art show was on march 26th at 6-8:30. It was located in the high school commons area. Last time it was here they did paintings from Vincent Van Gogh another painter who influenced the painting world. This years art show was a lot different than last years because this year over 260 people came to the art show and last year only 20 came. To represent the works of Picasso the made 3 large banners. Mrs. Miller chose the Picasso people to work with the art program. The art club and the school split the cost of the rental of the banners and posters. Some of the people that came to see it was Community members, Parents, students and other family members.
50 First Dates
Are you interested in seeing a good comedy? Well, the 50 First Dates movie is the one for you. This movie came out in the year 2004 and it made $121million at the box office. The ratings for this movie are three and a half stars out of five, as rated by the fans. This movie teaches you that no matter what happens to someone you can still love them no matter what.
The movie 50 First Dates is about a guy named Henry Roth (played by Adam Sndler) who meets this girl named Lucy (played by Drew Barrymore) who he falls in love with. Lucy has short term memory loss and wakes up everyday not remembering what happened yesterday. Everyday Henry will remind her that she loves him by either showing her a video of them together or showing her the diary that she writes in everyday. After that Lucy begins to remember more and more everyday. Eventually she and Henry have a little girl and everyday that little girl will also help Lucy remember who she is.
My favorite character in this movie is Henry, because he cares for Lucy even if she has short term memory loss. Everyday he has the ability to do the same thing over and over to help her remember that she loves him. There are also a lot of things you can learn from this movie. The one thing I learned from this most is that even if your hurt or you have a disability people can still love you for who you are. You can also learn that if you have to reach out and help them learn something new everyday that can show how much you care about them. That's what you'll find most interesting about this movie. I recommend this movie to others, because it will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

The Marine
In the movie the marine the character John Triton is a Marine. When he is in Iraq on a reconnaissance mission he disobeys his orders and saves the hostages before help arrives. When he goes back to his base they tell him that because he didn't follow orders, he is being discharged out of the marines. When he gets home he and his wife decide to go on a vacation. While he is in Iraq, five people rob a jewelry store. Once John and his wife get out of town the decide to stop at a gas station to get gas and supplies. Then the five people who robbed the store pull up and kill two cops and blew up the gas station with him in it. He manages to survive the explosion, but the robbers escape in a car with his wife in it.
After he regains consciousness, he gets in a police car and follow the robbers. Soon after, they realize that he is following them they start shooting the car he is in. After surviving a few miles of this, the come to a dead end where they start shooting the car and it went over a bridge and he jumps out into the water. Not realizing that he didn't die in the explosion they tied up his wife and headed through a swamp so they could escape with the diamonds they robbed from the store.
After they dragged her through the swamp and had arguments among themselves, there was only four of them left. While they were going through the swamp John was following close behind them. When they reached the end of the river they found a old abandoned shack. After finding them in the shack John kills three of the robbers, but two of them get away and still got his wife. After finding out that the deceive that was following the story was really the person who hired to robbers to steal the diamonds they had a fight and John killed him too. In the final scene of the movie John finds the robbers getting ready to leave by boat. If you wanna know what happens in the ending of the movie you will half to watch it for yourself.
This movie was a total of 93 minutes long. It is filmed in Arizona. It was released in 12 different countries. It is an action movie featuring John Cena who is a wrestling star. It was released on October 13th of 2006. At the box office it made $18,719,747.
My opinion of the movie is that it was a good movie. I would recommend this movie to people who like action movies. The people that are in it make it look good and the filming people were good too. I like this movie because its an action movie and I enjoy action movies. The main actor in it was kind of cool because he is a professional wrestler. I also like movies with suspense in them and thats what this movie had was suspense. It was like that because the viewers didn't know what was going to happen next, or if John was going to get his wife back.

The Glass House
The mystery, thriller movie The Glass House was directed by Daniel Sackheim in the location of Malibu, California. This movie was filmed in the year 2001. The main characters are Ruby Baker, Rhett Baker, Terrance “Terry” Glass, and Erin Glass. The title is that because the Glass family lives in a real glass house with a pool and it looks huge.
In this movie, when Ruby Baker's parents are killed in a car accident, her and her brother, Rhett must travel to Malibu, to live with Terrance and Erin Glass, their former neighbors. At first, Ruby and Rhett were comfortable and happy. Ruby is making new friends at school and Rhett is getting video games and flashy toys that he could live without. When Ruby speaks to her family lawyer, he tells her that her parents left her and Rhett $4 million. Then, Ruby begins to notice an odd behavior from Terry and Erin.
I think The Glass House was a great movie. That is because I love mystery movies and what is going to happen at the end. The end of the movie was a big surprise and you want to know what is going to happen next. Also, it didn't have any real bad violence and no blood. I don't like blood and violence movies. That is my opinion on The Glass House.

Movie Review, The Notebook

The Notebook was filmed in 2004 and directed by Nick Cassavetes, and written by Nicholas Sparks. In the beginning, it starts out as an old man named Duke, who is played by James Garner, reading a story to a woman at the nursing home whose memory is slipping. The old man reads about a young couple who meets at a carnival in Seabrook Island, South Carolina and fall in love. Noah and Allie are the main characters, who are the two who meet at the carnival and fall in love. Noah is played by Ryan Gosling and Allie is played by Rachel McAdams. During the movie it flashes back to the time Noah and Allie were together which takes place in 1940, and then it goes back to the present, where the old man, Duke, is reading the story to the woman at the nursing home. It continues on like that.
The Notebook had a total of 7 nominations and 11 wins for awards. It was nominated for MTV Movie Awards, Teen Choice Awards, and a BMI Film Music Award. One award that I always remember is the Best Kiss Award which Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams won. This was a MTV Movie Award.
This is my favorite movie of all times. I’m usually not into the really lovey dovey movies, but this one just gets me. First of all, Rachel McAdams is one of my favorite actresses, so that makes it better. Other than that, I just love the story. I love how there’s just a little bit of everything in it too. There’s romance, drama, and humor, so that just makes it better. I would recommend this movie to basically anyone, and even guys. Believe it or not I know a guy that this is his favorite movie. I don’t think it’s a bad thing either. It’s more than a love story.

Senior Government Day
On Monday, March 30, 2009 all the seniors went to the courthouse for government day for a half of a school day. Mrs. Schwenn went with them and Deuebrook came too. They got to watch 4 or 5 court cases, then split into groups, and got to explore the courthouse. Alexia Kloos said, "the case that was the most interesting was the case with the man from Brandy who is 50 and got a DUI. He was backing into the officers car."
"I thought all of the court cases were interesting because I have never been to a court case before. It was so interesting to see," said Jackie Fieber. "I learned how the trials actually work when some one has court," said Kloos.

April Fool's Day
April fool’s Day started on the year 1986. This day is all about making people laugh and having fun, most people enjoy it. Some people have a tendency to get mad on this day, but others enjoy it and just think the pranks are funny. One year I pulled a prank on my sister that was just hilarious. Here is what I did, I snuck into the bathroom and filled her hair dryer up with baby powder and then she turned it on and her hair was pure white. When she noticed she was quite mad, but it was worth it. I had to get back at her for all the things she has done to me.
In my opinion April fool’s Day is all about having fun and just enjoying the day. I don’t think it’s just mainly about pulling pranks on people, I think it’s about making everyone laugh and having a good time with friends and family.
